Relics from the fatal crash of 'Bluey' Truscott's Kittyhawk
1943Several small pieces of metal including airframe, bolt, washer, angle and wire, collected after the crash of well known Australian pilot, Squadron Leader Keith William 'Bluey' Truscott's final flight and crash, 28 March 1943.
The relics are contained within a decorative, Persian style metal box, nestling on folded brown paper. In the lid of the box is more brown paper with cursive writing in ink giving details of the contents.
Keith William "Bluey" Truscott, DFC & Bar (17 May 1916 – 28 March 1943) was a famous Australian World War II fighter pilot. Prior to enlisting, he had played Australian rules footballer with the Melbourne Football Club.
As the information written and contained with the relics indicate, he was killed in a flying accident when his Kittyhawk crashed into the sea in the Exmouth Gulf on 28 March 1943.
