Agricultural Machinery
c. 1944A young man driving a W30 International tractor which is pulling a combine seeder which has sacks of seed and there is another man on the seeder
On the side of the tractor are two cylinders between the front and back wheels. These cylinders were known as gas producers in which charcoal was burnt to produce energy to run the machinery. A gas producer was attached to most farm machinery during the Second World War, it was a way of producing energy rather than using petrol. This one was made by Wake's in Katanning and a special modification by Arthur Poett. Home made charcoal was used to produce gas. This machinery was used on the farm 'Wirnup' which was located in the Badgebup district. The driver of the tractor is Benson Joy. The seeder was a Massey 14 run seeder. There are sacks of seed on top of the seeder which Mr Kemble would empty into the seeder as required.
