World War 2, Western Australia, Rottnest Island, Coast Artillery Instrumentation, Decoder - Fall of Shot Mk 2

1939 - 1945
Overview

Decoder – Fall of Shot Mk 2 – A box-like instrument with a transparent circular fce similar to a clock face. The battery Commander set the instrument to the engaging range and bearing so the fall of shot could be observed. Distance from target in hundreds of yards was noted with Hits, Straddles and near Misses recorded by special code letters. Based on this date, the Battery Commander would order the spotting corrections to the battery plotting room.
