World War 2, Western Australia, Rottnest Island, Coast Artillery Instrumentation, Stereoscopic Telescopes

Overview

Stereoscopic Telescopes, No 1A and No 3. The Battery Commander and the Inclination Officer each had a Stereoscopic Telescope mounted on a tripod. The instruments were high powered prismatic binocular telescopes with object lenses mounted at the end of arms. These arms could move toward the horizon to give a sense of depth. The wider the arms, the greater the stereoscopic effect. The right eyepiece had engraved horizontal and vertical reticules which helped in estimating the range/size of the target.
