World War 2, Western Australia, Rottnest Island, Coast Artillery Instrumentation, Indicator – Time of Flight Mk 1

Overview

Indicator – Time of Flight Mk 1 – This instrument, located in the Battery Observation Post on Signal Ridge was used by the Battery Commander to indicate the time at which rounds from the battery should fall in the target area. The range to target was set and a plunger pushed when the guns fired. A buzzer would sound at a preset number of seconds before the rounds fell. If multiple batteries were engaging the Target, this instrument would assist the Battery Commander tin identifying his rounds.
