World War 2,Western Australia, Rottnest Island, Coast Artillery Instrumentation, Depression Position Finder Type O
Depression Position Finder Type O - This instrument was only used in the Cape Vlamingh fortress observation post. This instrument was positioned so that when the telescope was laid on the target, the range and bearing so determined was automatically transmitted electrically to the fortress plotting rooms. Fitted to the instrument was a coordinate roamer which travelled on a “block square point” chart recording all movements of the target thus enabling course bearing and speed to be read.
