MUG: TIN
c. 1915TIN Oval iron mug with lip on the right hand side. The interior is tinned. The exterior is painted grey. There are two measuring marks on the front and also '1/4 L' impressed. . Middle back has two thin oval handles of iron attached by a strip of iron held on by 6 rivets. Between the handles is impressed ' ? / 15 / NURNBERG'. This would appear to be similar to WW1 mugs used by the Germans. The Germans early war drinking cups were made of aluminium, then they changed to these iron ones before quickly going over to enamelled ones.
Used as field equipment during the war. Also common kitchen equipment.
