Mrs Balding is seated with Laurel on her knees, and Norma standing alongside her. Mabel is standing at the back with Mr Balding. Norma is in a fancy-dress costume with ballet slippers holding a small shepherd's crook adorned with ribbons and ornaments. She is wearing a hat with flowers on the crown and an upturned brim. Mrs Balding is wearing a long formal gown with a locket around her neck.
