Polishing Iron

Overview

A small iron with two rows of holes on both sides of the iron, a wooden handle and a small metal globe at the back of the iron.

Historical information

This small iron was used in homes or by dressmakes for gathers in sleeves or shirts before electric irons were introduced. The iron was heated using a flammable liquid which was stored in the small metal globe at the back of the iron.
It is a Feldmeyer iron.
