CLUB STAYING THE COURSE - NEWSPAPER ARTICLE
2021"Club Staying the Course" - Newspaper Article reports the decision by the Melville City Council in 2021 to abandon the project to use part of the MGGC golf course for housing development.
The concept had been on the agenda for many years. For MGGC the offer was to lose several holes from the second nine in the north-west corner of the land reserve and in exchange be granted part of the John Connell Reserve to the south of the course.
The offer was for the club to be relocated without cost, replacement golf holes established, potentially a new clubhouse and the existing debt to the Council to be extinguished. However, there were several uncertainties associated with this offer. Local residents were also opposed to the development as it meant they would lose the natural surroundings of the golf course on the southern side of Beasley Road.
General Manager Matt Espie was also interviewed in the article and explains the club's view of this decision.
