Contextual Information

The folder and contents, presented to surviving members of World War II at a commemorative service on the 25 July 1995, which recognised the 50th anniversary of the war ending. Folder was compiled to acknowledge the women who served in Australia’s Defence Forces during World War II.
In one article the then Minister for Veterans’ Affairs said, “Through their service in the defence forces, the Land Army, general industry, in the home and as nurses, women stamped themselves as more than capable workers and a vital cog in the wheel of employment and the economy. The women of World War II became pioneers as they forged an independence out of necessity that left foundation stones for the modern women of Australia to build on”.
