PHOTOGRAPH: SUBIACO MUNICIPAL COUNCIL COMMUNITY SERVICE MEDALLION TO KEN BOWEN, 1945

c. 1945
Overview

The black and white photograph shows medallion issued to Ken Bowen, Freeman of the City of Subiaco in 1945. The photograph shows the medallion with the old Subiaco Council crest, the name around the rim and 'W.A.' flanking the black swan at lower centre. A toothed (serrated) edge surrounds the rim and the loop for the chain is placed on top of two fancy scrolls. Originally issued to Councillors as a 'membership' badge, this particular badge was the last to be issued and was given to Ken Bowen in recognition of faithful attendance at Council Meetings over a 3 year period. Medallions were worn on fob chains and allowed Councillors and local M.P's free travel on Subiaco trams as well as free admittance to football at the Subiaco Football Oval. Remaining badges were melted down for their gold content. Museum holds original photo only.
