What Have You Seen My Blue-Eyed Son?
2014Artist Statement: "What Have You Seen My Blue Eyed Son? Nothing withstands an iron blaze A blind cannon ball and the world must run Munitions of pig iron draped in pearls Precious tears for works to be done For some reason the coastal town of Cossack brings to mind pirates and treasure, I thought about this and the remoteness and great hardships pioneers had endured working there. People saw iron-ore mountains coming into the sea, someone spoke it, and it happened. A wonderful bounty drawn from the land and sea! Iron ore and pearls. The painting title is cued from Bob Dylan's song "Hard rain". I wanted it to have a broad interpretation to ideas of rarity, abundance, human pursuits and the bitter-sweetness of desire and treasure. The still life arrangement lampoons the human eye as a black hole." Image shows a string of pearls draped over a black sphere on a reflective green surface. In the background is plywood and a pink rectangle on the right hand side.
