Untitled
Dark hilly landscape depicting hills after pine harvesting with foreboding clouds. Artist Statement: This photograph was a taken on the Balingup to Nannup road, one of my favourite shooting locations in the South West. Recent fires had devastated large areas of the pine plantations and the blackened trees were being removed one by one leaving an altered landscape. The clearing revealed the form of the land that once would have been covered by native bushland. The work talks of how we use the natural environment and how the actions we take have an effect on the future of industries and our society. Climate change has made the likelihood of extreme fire conditions more the norm than the exception. It is my hope that we find ways of living in harmony with nature and not destroying it in the process.
