Overview

A dot painting of the Super Pit, Kalgoorlie Artist Statement Study for The Sublime (Ore mixed with terror) 2, continues my research of the gold mining industry. Following a matrix, different size drill bits are used to apply each of the 41,280 dots of paint by hand. The method mimics drill patterns used to map the position of each hole that is subsequently drilled and blasted ultimately forming an open pit mine. Similarly, the impact of each dot/hole is not immediately obvious. Study for The Sublime (Ore mixed with terror) 2, encourages the viewer to step back and allow the image to reveal itself.
