SCORECARD - MEN CIRCA 1969

c. 1969
Overview

This scorecard is a "Members" (Men) card.

It has been determined as circa 1969. It is possibly the first one for the club despite a hand-written note on one of the samples stating, "2nd scorecard". Colin Harburn's details are typed onto the card with "Match Play" and a 08:20am tee time indicating it was possibly prepared for the club championships.

One feature of the card distinguishes it from several men’s cards that follow in time sequence. It has different lengths for holes 11 and 17 (hole 11 is 31 yards shorter and hole 17 is 36 yards longer). The following cards have the same lengths for those holes. These unique hole lengths, in combination with other card features, suggest that it is earlier than others. The difference in hole lengths could have been some aspect of the course layout at that time or perhaps measurement errors.

Other card features relevant to determining the date of this card:

    • The card is printed with olive text on a white background with a matt finish.
    • Distances in yards
    • Club address is Bateman
    • The course layout of nines has the first hole heading SW from the clubhouse on the southern set of nine holes
    • The card does not feature the club crest
    • Local rules are crudely laid out
    • Handicap reduction table is printed on the rear

The scanned image of this card shows the:

    • front cover
    • opened-out view of the back and front covers
    • inside pages used for scoring.
