Overview

Colour postcard of the T.S.S. Wyreema, an Australian passenger steamship built in 1908 for the Australasian United Steam Navigation Company (A.U.S.N.).
The ship is steaming to the left on a calm sea. The A.U.S.N. logo and flag appear at the top left, and information about the ship at top right.
The words 'Sailed April 29th 1911' are written in black ink in the lower right corner.
The reverse is also written in black ink and bears a One Penny red postage stamp.

Historical information

During World War One, the T.S.S. Wyreema was requisitioned as a troopship and primarily used to safely transport Australian Army Nursing Service nurses to Europe.

Eileen McNamara (Australian Army Nursing Service) embarked on board the T.S.S. Wyreema from Sydney on 14 October 1918 for Salonika, but the ship was recalled when the war ended on 11 November 1918.

This postcard was bought as a souvenir by a civilian in 1911 and sent to a person named Alex.
