Overview

On the front is a photograph of Ernest James DAVIES in uniform complete with slouch hat, 9th Battalion patch, Australian Rising sun badge and Corporal stripe with extra AUSTRALIA shoulder badge pinned under Rising Sun. On the back is a postcard layout.

Historical information

After embarking from Australia in 1914 for service with the 9th Battalion Ernest James DAVIES was wounded at Gallipoli and repatriated to England. After some time recuperating, due to his accountancy background, he was transferred to Pay Corps and then onto High Commission of Australia House in charge of paying Australian War Workers and Australian Munitions Workers. He was awarded an M.B.E. for his war work in the Civilian field. Discharged in 1920 he re-enlisted for the Second World War at the age of 53 serving for 5 years with the 18 Australian Works Company under the Civilian Military Forces.
