6 INCH NAVAL GUN AT ALBANY FORTS, 1925
1925This is a black-and-white photograph of five young women around one of the six-inch naval guns mounted at the Princess Royal Forts Albany as part of the seaward defence against possible invading naval vessels. The gun is in a pit accessed by a ladder with a door leading to a shell room. The women are Grace Negus, Gwen Negus, Edna Strempel, Margaret Martin, and Meg Hinds. The photograph was taken by Edwin Negus, the younger brother of the Negus girls.
All five women attended UWA in the early days of the university's first being established as Western Australia state university.
