SILVER MILK JUG

Overview

Small silver milk jug with hinged lid with round knob on top and spout and handle. Engraved on side and makers stamped on base by maker. Scratched and tarnished. Small dent on side towards top.

Historical information

In 1938 the owners of the Narrogin Inn, Mr and Mrs W Gaynor redeveloped the hotel into a modern hotel with a Tudor inspired design but with modern conveniences. This jug, made by Platers Pty Ltd of St Kilda, Victoria, was possibly purchased for the new dinning room. The jug was acquired by Stan Gregory in the 1960s when he was working at the Inn.

Statement of significance

HIGH
The jug was made in St Kilda Victoria by Platers Pty Ltd and purchased in either the late 1930s or the 1940s for use at the Ye Old Narrogin Inn when it was owned by Mr and Mrs W. Gaynor and leased by John and Myra Kerby. It is possible that the jug was purchased in 1938 when the hotel underwent a major renovation and was modernised. The jug was acquired by Stan Gregory in the 1960s when he was working at the Narrogin Inn. The jug was used in the Inn's dining room.
