Overview

Large dairy herd grazing in the grounds to the east of the buildings. Roof and verandah of a ward is visible amidst trees behind cattle. On the hill in the background is the Administration building on the left, and the chimney stack and works buildings to its right.

Historical information

The hospital's Red Poll herd supplied milk for many government establishments in the metropolitan area. Low building in centre of photo was used at different times as women's ward, the children's ward and for staff training. Hospital built 1901 and in 1933 it became known as the Claremont Mental Hospital.
