Historical information

Richard's Electrical - Corner Stirling Highway & Bay View Terrace. From small beginnings as a corner shop in 1954, has expanded to take up the whole block, to become a Claremont landmark. Was owned by Richard Ferrago who lived in Mt Lawley. According to his daugher Michelle Urban, Australians had trouble with pronunciation of their last name Ferrago, hence the store was named Richard's after her father's first name. Richard Ferrago was a Holocaust survivor and used to give regualr talks to high school students about the war, what he endured and how he survived. Richard worked at the Shell petrol station in Fremantle and spotted the corner store for sale when on the bus on the way home, he went on to purchase it and run this Claremont icon. Richard Ferrago died in September 2017.
