Historical information

The “Anti Aircraft and Fortress Signals Corps” were established in Albany at the Princess Royal Fortress during the Second World War in 1941. Initially manned by only men A.W.A.S. became involved in 1942 freeing up the men to serve. One of the women to serve as a signaler, F. J. BEALL WF90395, met and married G. E. BOWRA WX32813 a signalman already stationed at the fortress. The banner has been used in a commemorative ceremony at the King’s Park War Memorial and more recently in an Anzac Day March in 2001, later “Albany” was added.
