Contextual information

Wooden planes from this period were typically made from dense, durable hardwoods which featured an iron cutting blade often handmade or later machine-forged as the century progressed.
Despite the rise of metal planes, wooden planes remained in widespread use towards the end of the nineteenth and well into the twentieth centuries. Many woodworkers preferred their lighter weight and the tactile feedback they offered during use.
