PHOTOGRAPH: P. GAVIN DUFFY'S SURVEY CAMP AT KELLERBERRIN

Overview

The black and white photograph shows Mr P. Gavan Duffy and his family at a Goldfields Water Supply survey camp at Kellerberrin. The accompanying note says: 'Miss Alma Scott says there were four Leake brothers farming at Kellerberrin when they were there and all are dead now. The widow of one lives at Mount Lawley. Widow and daughter of Bruce Leake live in Walcott Street. Miss Scott's father on account of health came over to stay with a brother farming at Kellerberrin. Then his wife and family followed and they stayed six months with their brother and decided to remain in W.A. Also farming, I understand.' Mrs Gavan Duffy is seated in a wooden chair with an open book on her lap, and her daughter stands immediately behind her (left). P. Gavan Duffy stands on the other side of the chair and holds the hand of their other little girl. Mrs Duffy is wearing a long skirt and a long dark jacket with puffed sleeves. The girls wear short frocks with shirred yokes. Mr Duffy wears a two piece suit, waistcoat with a fob watch, and dark hat. Behind them stand several other men and there are two surveying instruments on tripods. There is a row of six tents in the background, being canvas stretched over wooden frames. On the reverse of the photograph are the words: 'Goldfields Water Supply - P. Gavan Duffy's Survey Camp at Kellerberrin'.
