POSTCARD: SUBIACO VOLUNTARY AID DIVISION, DRILL HALL, NICHOLSON ROAD

Overview

The black and white image features the women from the Volunteer Aid Detachment in the Drill Hall, Nicholson Road. The women and three men are arranged in front of the ambulance, some seated, others standing or elevated. The uniform consists of belted shirt dress, buttoned up the front, with a white collar and white breast pocket with a red cross. On the right hand side, the women wear the blue badge of the V.A.D. Fifth Military Division. Most wear a cap, again with the Red Cross. Mrs E.M. Thomas, the founder of the detachment, sits in the middle of the front row. Her uniform is a skirt, shirt and tie and belted jacket and flat brimmed hat. Two other women thus dressed stand immediately behind her.
