Hull of 'Janice' was built by Sawkins Brothers at their boatshed, 8 Victoria Avenue. Cabin and fitting out was done by Alan Bright 12 Wright Avenue Claremont. Commended April 25 finished Oct-Nov 1949. 'Janice' built to impress a Lady by the name of Margaret. 1 trip to Rottnest Christmas 1949. Most of the fitting out of 'Janice' was from materials from WAGR workshops. Alan Bright was a 2nd year apprentice car and wagon builder at WAGR workshop. Cost of building shown on donor form. A 2 ft long model of 'Janice' was displayed at workshop for 100 year anniversary. 'Janice' was originally moored at Claremont Baths with Carl Pederson. Had to shift the boat as could not afford the fees. 'Janice' was then parked outside Frank Sawkins shed and he looked after it. Sold approx Feb 1950 to Mr Percy Johnstone 18 Beresford St Albany 6330 (farmers). Johnstone's loved the boat for its sea worthiness, general outstanding handling and beautiful finish. Later engine fitted was BMC Austin A30 800cc. Then 'Janice' sold to unknown person. Later broke moorings at Emu Point and found at Little Grove across Albany Harbour.
