Photo taken of Mount Augustus located 490 kms east of Carnarvon, covers 4,800 hectares, it is the worlds largest rock monolith, 2.5 times larger than Uluru in the Northern Territory. According to Western Australia's Department of Conservation and Land Management (CALM) - Mt Augustuts rises to a height of 717 metres above a stoney, red sand plane. Its central ridge is almost 8 kms long. The mountain is known as Burringurrah by the local Wadjari Aboriginal people. Mt. Augustus was named ihonour of Sir Charles Gregory (1819-1905) brother of the exploreer Francis Gregory who was the first to climb the mountain during an epic 107 day journey through the Gascoyne region of Western Australia.
