PAIR OF UNARTICULATED HANDCUFFS

Overview

Small, round, metal, unarticulated (rigid) handcuffs. Cuffs consist of two oval shaped metal bracelets for securing wrists, welded together along one edge. A cylindrical barrel is attached to one side of one bracelet, consisting of a screw type locking mechanism which is locked (no key). Attached to the opposite side of the adjoining bracelet is a large hinge secured by a metal pin, which allows the bracelets to open when the lock is unlocked. Imprinted on the surface, near the hinge, is […]/ 25'. The inside surface of the cuffs is smooth, while the outer surface is pitted.

Contextual Information

These rigid handcuffs are designed to close tight around a prisoner's wrists. Although very light in comparison to the heavier shackles, their close fit was very restrictive and prevented any independent movement of the hands or lower arms.
