Brymay Matchbox Labels - "Politican" series
1929Cardboard matchbox, paper label and sliding container. Strike plates on both sides. On the label is a framed black and white head portrait of a man. Background is yellow with black text, and behind is a red border with black text.
Each matchbox label has a different image of a West Australian politician (Governor or Premier), and is numbered.
This collection is incomplete - currently have only 29 matchbox labels .
This was a special series to commemorate the 150th anniversary of Western Australia from 1829 to 1979.
In 1829, the State nominated Governors, then in later years, politicians were titled Premiers. The labels date back to the first Governor in 1829, Captain James Stirling to Sir David Brand in 1979.
NOTE: Incomplete set of matchboxes with labels. A collector of matchbox labels is called a Phillumenist.

The 150th anniversary (sesquicentennial) of Western Australia was celebrated in 1979 under the official title WAY '79 (Western Australia 150th Year). This celebration marked 150 years since the establishment of the Swan River Colony in 1829, which was the first permanent European settlement in Western Australia.
