Miles Mason

Overview

Small round blue and white patterned bowl with gold rim. This blue willow pattern is a classic Chinese landscape design, the fundamentals of which include a weeping willow, pagodas, a crooked fence, a tree bearing fruit, two figures on a bridge, a boat.

Historical information

Chinoiserie Broseley pattern:
The Broseley pattern is a notable example of the Chinoiserie style, which is characterized by its use of blue and white porcelain and other decorative arts inspired by Chinese and other East Asian cultures. The pattern was inspired by a Chinese original design and was one of the earliest printed patterns produced on porcelain at Caughley around 1780. It is named after the neighboring town of Broseley and was primarily used on tea services.
