Historical information

John Hutt, Esq. served as the Governor of Western Australia from 1839 to 1846. He was born on July 24, 1795, in London and was the fourth of thirteen children of Richard Hutt. Hutt was involved in the colonization of Australia and was appointed as Governor after succeeding Sir James Stirling. His tenure was marked by significant changes in land regulations and policies towards Aboriginal peoples, reflecting a more humane approach compared to his predecessor. He resigned his commission on 19 February 1846.
