CUTWORK, DRAWN THREAD, RUNNER

Overview

This runner is Sicilian cut and drawn work, called Punto Tirato and sometimes called Russian drawn ground.
The leaf design of the linen fabric is surrounded by cut and drawn threads forming a mesh-like background. After the threads have been withdrawn from either warp or weft, the remaining threads are wrapped with needle-weaving in the same colour as the base material.
A narrow 4 mm hem has been stitched in place with buttonhole stitch.
At intervals around the edge are needlelace scallops worked in buttonhole stitch.
