DEWARS POOL CHRISTMAS TREE
A section of a hollow tree trunk blazed 70mm from base.
Known as the Dewars Pool Christmas Tree, due to its original location and the date of the inscription.
This tree trunk is the remnant of tree that originally grew along the Old Dewars Pool Stock Route, about 20km from Toodyay.
On Christmas Day, 1888 an inscription was carved into the tree trunk by what is assumed to be two drovers with the initials M.T. and H.E.
Who they were, and what became of them is unknown.

In 1990 Toodyay locals Fred Lee and Peggy Nelligan were concerned that the tree trunk remnant might be lost in a fire and suggested to the Toodyay Society that it be removed and placed in a suitable location for public viewing.
With much assistance from Laurie Beech and Graham Mills, the Toodyay Tourist Centre had it installed in the Newcastle Gaol Museum courtyard on October 20, 1990.
It is unknown when the trunk was subsequently taken out of the gaol courtyard; however by 2001, when the trunk was accessioned as part of the museum collection, it had been moved to another area of the museum precinct.
