1930This black and white photograph shows a large crowd gathered in a field at the West Subiaco Aerodrome, awaiting the arrival of Amy Johnson on 7 July 1930.
Members of the crowd are wearing hats and coats and a few people are holding umbrellas indicating poor weather. Their faces are strained upwards. There is a small group of people in front of the crowd, and behind there is thick bush in the background.
Amy Johnson was the first woman to fly solo from Britain to Australia in 1930. After arriving in Darwin she toured Australia, including arriving in Perth, at Maylands Aerodrome, on 7 July 1930. Later that same day she visited the West Subiaco Aerodrome.
