Annetta 'Nink' Florence Burns was born on 19-12-1921 at Nurse Harvey's Hospital, East Perth.
Her parents were Thomas and Gertrude Burns. The family came to Perth from Victoria in 1897 and settled at 25 Catherine Street 'Hepburn', Subiaco. Her grandmother, an astute business woman, started Brown and Burns Bakery (doesn't know origin of 'Brown' side) and managed it with her son (Nink's father). Forty bakers were employed, delivery carts when horses backed into cart. Bakery and horse stables near corner of Broome Road (?Hay St) and Rokeby Road. Wood fired bakers ovens, piles of wood, horses fed chaff. Thieves blew up safe in 1930s. Nink attended Subiaco Primary School, 47 in class, then Perth College and City Commercial College. Worked at National Bank, Murray Street. Many activities with friends. Reluctantly returned to bakery office during World War Two and stayed until bakery bought by Tip-Top in 1959-60 (approx. 40 years) Played tennis at Onslow Park, then Cottesloe. Foundation Member of Probis.
