Wooden Barrel Tap
A barrel bung (or tap) is a cylindrical plug, made of wood, used to seal the bunghole of a barrel. The pointed end would be inserted into the hole of the barrel. Tap can then be rotated to turn on (to pour) or off to stop the flow of liquid.
A wooden barrel bung is a cylindrical plug, typically made of wood, used to seal the bunghole of a barrel. It serves to create an airtight seal, preventing leaks and contamination while allowing the contents of the barrel to breathe and mature properly. Bungs are essential for winemaking, ageing spirits like whiskey, and storing various liquids. Bungs are also used in the aging process of spirits like whiskey, where they help to control oxygen exposure and impart unique characteristics to the final product. Barrels (large and small) sealed with bungs are used for storing a variety of liquids, including water, olive oil, vinegar, and other beverages.
