Light Horse Brigade Leather Gaiters - 1918
1918Dark brown leather leggings with 2 leather straps to tighten around legs. Two straps - first one wrapping around leg 3 times to tighten. Second strap - small one at the top of the leg to hold it firm. Two metal studded loops at back to loop straps through.
Only one gaiter (legging) - part of a pair of brown leather leggings.
Has one long leather strap with buckle from ankle to calf, and one short leather strap with buckle at top of calf.
Leggings (or gaitors) were part of the uniform issued to soldiers to help protect their legs and uniform. The idea is to wrap around lower legs.
Leather leggings were used by mounted troops in the Australian Army from its inception in 1903 to approx 1944
