Port Adelaide Central Mission celluloid fundraising pin
Port Adelaide Central Mission circular celluloid fundraising pin. It features a blue depiction of a marine lifebuoy (lifesaver), complete with printed segments and rope borders. The text is all printed in red.
The placement of the print is not central.
In the centre of the pin are the words 'KEEP A BRAVE HEART'. Around this, the text reads 'Port / Adelaide / Central' printed in bold red lettering around the ring between the upper three segments. The bottom of the ring features the word 'Mission', also stamped in red ink.
It would have had a metal pin threaded through a small hole for attachment, but this is missing.
The reverse of the pin is plain, with no maker's marks.
Port Adelaide Central Mission was formed by the Methodist Church on April 8, 1919 and initially responded to the influenza pandemic and poverty after World War One..
During World War Two, the Mission extended its community welfare network and fundraising efforts, issuing items such as patriotic support badges bearing slogans like 'Keep a Brave Heart', as seen on this pin.
Decades after the war, the organisation continued to grow, eventually transitioning into UnitingCare Wesley Port Adelaide and later known as UnitingSA.
