CONTAINER: FOR WAX MATCHES, WILLIAM BROWNING

Overview

Copper wax cigarette container with hinged lid which has a small ring on top. Scored section on base for striking matches. Rounded oblong shape. Scattered dark brown and reddish blotches mark the surface.

Historical information

Discussion with donor, nephew of Bugler William Browning whose personal effects returned to the family after his death at Gallipoli included this item.
William Browning enlisted in 21 September 1914 at Blackboy Hill Camp as part of the 16th Battalion. He was Killed in Action at Gallipoli 1 May 1915.
Mother GA Browning lived at 27 (later 30 Hilda Street West Subiaco WA.
