PHOTOGRAPH (DIGITAL): DIANNE COLVIN WITH PARENTS ARTHUR AND EILEEN COLVIN, 1945

1945
Overview

Rectangular hand-coloured studio portrait depicting a seated woman, a baby, and a standing man arranged in a formal group composition. The figures are positioned against a softly patterned studio backdrop in warm beige tones.

The woman (mother Eileen) is seated at the left of the frame, facing forward. She has dark, short-set hair and wears a dark dress with a contrasting light-blue yoke featuring a symmetrical, stylised decorative motif across the chest.

A baby (Dianne) is seated on the woman’s lap at the centre of the image. The child faces forward with both feet visible and slightly raised. The baby wears a pale yellow short-sleeved dress with smocking and multicoloured embroidered detailing across the bodice.

Her father Arthur is seen at the back leaning on the chair. He has neatly styled hair and wears a brown suit, a pale shirt, and a dark red tie. One hand rests on his knee while the other is positioned behind the woman.

The reverse of the photograph has written in blue pen: 'Baby Dianne Colvin/ Parents Arthur + Eileen Colvin/ Born Kensington Hosp / Subiaco / 6th June 1945.

The original photograph was a black and white image, hand coloured.
