WWI photographic portrait pin of Australian soldier
c. 1915Greyscale portrait of a World War One Australian soldier printed onto a pin worn as a brooch. It is made from printed paper between a tin base and celluloid cover.
The soldier is wearing his uniform and peaked cap. Rising Sun badges are visible on his cap and collar.
The reverse has a metal back with a void into which a metal pin would be secured for attachment.
The identity of the Australian soldier on the pin is unknown. Presumably, a relative would have worn this with pride.
Photo lockets, pendants and brooches were very popular during wartime and there are a large number of them in the collection.
