Statement of significance

This object is part of a collection that shows how private transportation and farm machinery has evolved within the City of Armadale since 1830. When Kelmscott was gazetted in 1830 the small town was connected to Perth and Fremantle by a simple sandy track. In order to get goods to and from the town and the surrounding properties animal drawn transport was essential. In the 1890s with the arrival of the train, animal powered transport was still required to transport goods to and from stations at Kelmscott and Armadale as well as to power ploughs in the paddocks.
