Royal Australian Electrical & Mechanical Engineers Uniform
Post 1954 uniform worn by a member of the Royal Australian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers. The coat is khaki coloured and is closed with 4 brass buttons bearing the insignia of the corp. On the front there are 4 large pockets that are each fastened by a brass Corp button and one small change pocket. There is a plain epaulette on each shoulder that is fastened by a brass Corp button near the collar. The insignia on each shoulder names the Corp and the badge below is the Elizabeth II version of the Australian Army Headquarters formation patch that was standard from 1954. On each lapel of the collar is pinned a Corp badge.
The Australian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (AEME) were raised on 1st December 1942 and the title "Royal" was granted by King George VI in 1948 in recognition of the dedication of the AEME personnel during WW2.
In 1912 the Federal Government of Australia established the Commonwealth Government Clothing Factory in Bank Street, South Melbourne in 1912 to manufacture and supply clothing for Department of Defence and Post Master General.

The Royal Corps of Australian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers is a corp of the Australian Army that has responsibility for the maintenance and recovery of all Army electrical and mechanical equipment. RAEME has members from both the Australian Regular Army and the Army Reserve.
