Historical information

Artist statement: Tyrown Waigana’s illustrative pieces, created digitally and printed on poster paper, seek to interrogate the ideas that the children’s works were never meant to last, and only after they became profitable was there an investment. The series features black figures against a pink background and references styling seen in the Carrolup Collection. The figures in the image dont have faces; this is to represent the nameless, faceless artists that were once known to their communities but not recorded. The series reflects the collective mindset of children and the similarity across the child artists.

Artist bio/contact: Tyrown Waigana is a multiple disciplinary artist and designer. His practice includes graphic design, illustration, painting, sculpture and animation. His heritage can be traced to Wandandi Noongar peoples of South-West Western Australia and the Ait Koedal clan of Saibai Island in the Torres Strait. He takes many different projects that span different industries from corporate commissions to fine art. Waigana enjoy taking on new and exciting work that pushes creative limitations, which allows me to grow as an artist.
