Hugh Hamersley (1840-1898) owned extensive tracts of land at Greenough and John Maley (1839-1910) was at times his land agent.
The Electric Telegraph office was built onto the southern side of the Courthouse and Prison Cells at Central Greenough and began operating in 1874.
