PHOTOGRAPH: LUMS & CO, GENERAL STORE, SUBIACO, CIRCA 1916
c. 1916The black and white photograph shows E.A. Lums General Store in Hay Street, Subiaco, c.1916. Four people are seen standing outside of the shop, on the pavement. From left: A woman in long white dress, a man holding a child and two young men with white aprons. The shop window on right of the entrance shows prices of butter and eggs, and behind it, stacks of groceries are visible. The name of the shop is painted on a board across the width of the shop, and above this is a balcony with geometric balustrades. A large advertising sign for Velvet Soap occupies the front of one bay of the balcony, with decorative iron lace across the top of the balcony. Just visible on the right of the photo is the next shop, 'Abbott's and New and Secondhand Furniture'. Charles Lums was the owner of E.A Lums and Co, Cash Grococers and Provision Merchants.
