PHOTOGRAPH: SUBIACO SOCCER CLUB, CIRCA 1930

c. 1930
Overview

The sepia photo of the Subiaco Soccer Club at Rosalie, outside the wooden club house, which had a dirt floor. Seven of the men at end of back two rows are in suits, the rest in soccer uniform, apart from the central person in back row, who wears a white long-sleeved jersey. Men in front row are seated cross-legged on the ground, the centre man holding a soccer ball with SSC painted on it. Next to him, 2nd from right is the donor's father Ron Tyrrell. Albert (nickname Ron) Tyrrell was born 18.12.1904 and fought in World War Two in the Middle East. He could have stayed in Australia after that tour of duty but he volunteered to go to South-East Asia with Weary Dunlop in 1942. He was captured by the Japanese on 7th March 1942, and on 20th June 1945 was killed in a massacre of prisoners on Labuan, a small island on the west coast of Borneo.
