SILVER SPOON EVENT PRIZE
These two objects are samples of silver spoons issued as prizes for winners of each women's Silver Spoon Event. Five of these Events are currently scheduled during each golfing season. A silver spoon is also awarded by GolfWA for the annual winner from each participating golf club of the Silver Spoon Event.
Both handles of the spoons have MGGC (Melville Glades Golf Club) in capital letters. Apart from that, each spoon has unique features.
The spoon labelled “a” with a double triangular ending handle (The 'M' in MGGC) has a generally plain finish. A stamp (unreadable to the naked eye) appears on the handle to indicate it is in fact made of silver. The mouth of this spoon tapers to the tip. The spoon is mounted in a box, although the lid is absent.
The spoon labelled “b” has a rounded handle, a scroll down the stem, and a dappled finish on the mouth of the spoon. The stamp on this spoon is on the reverse of the plain mouth. The mouth of this spoon has an oval shape. This spoon came without a box.
The weight of each is approximately 0.5 ounces. In terms of pure silver metal value this is not a significant value. However, the craftsmanship and finish make them of much greater value.
The spoons were donated by Barbara King. Barbara was a MGGC member in the period 1981 to 2004. The dates for her wins in the Silver Spoon Events are not known.
