Historical information

HMAS Albany is an Armidale Class Patrol Boat commissioned on 15 July 2006. Its role is to monitor Australia’s fisheries, immigration and borders (Operation Sovereign Borders), customs and drug importation with other agencies such as the ABF (Australian Border Force), AFP (Australian Federal Police) and Australian Fisheries. HMAS Albany has a range of 3000 nautical miles at a maximum speed of 25 knots, with technology that allows accurate tracking and satellite navigation. Contextual Information

HMAS Albany was named after the Port of Albany in Western Australia; the state’s first port and departure point of the first two WW1 convoys to Alexandria (Egypt) in 1914.
